GUWAHATI: Forest Department personnel detained a suspected poacher from the Bhetapara area here on Wednesday night. The detention has been made on the request of West Bengal Forest department.
Sources informed that the poacher identified as Jamaluddin from Manipur lives in a rented place here. He plies a cab under Uber.
The case relates to the poaching of a rhinocerous in West Bengal on March 31, 2021. Sleuths zeroed down on Jamaluddin after his mobile phone was traced at the location of the incident in Bengal.

Kolkata, Dec 28: The West Bengal Forest department has put a radio collar on a male tiger in Sunderban Tiger Reserve, a top forest official said.
Part of 'Safeguard Tiger' campaign, the initiative will help in understanding the habitat utilisation pattern of the big cats along with their behaviour, Chief Wildlife Warden V K Yadav told reporters on Sunday.
"The male tiger was radio collared during December 26 -27 and released in Sunderban Tiger Reserve for assessing tiger-human interactions through radio-telemetry," he said.
The operation was conducted at Harikhali beat under Bashirat range under Sunderban Tiger Reserve.

The West Bengal Forest Department has radio collared a tiger in the Sunderban Tiger Reserve and released it in the wild. The initiative has been taken by wildlife wing of West Bengal Forest Department in collaboration with the World Wild Fund for Nature-India (WWF) India is aimed at ‘Assessing Tiger-Human Interactions through Radio-Telemetry’.
According to senior forest officials, the process of radio collaring was conducted on December 26 and 27 (Saturday and Sunday) in Harikhali beat under Bashirat range in Sundarban. A male tiger was radio collared and released in wild.
