ANC candidate Peter Nabulindo has won the Matungu by-election.
Nabulindo garnered 14,257 votes, trouncing his closest challenger, David Were of Orange Democratic Movement, who got 10,565 votes.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer John Kirui declared Nabulindo the winner of the hotly contested by-election.
Third in the race to replace the late MP Justus Murunga was United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Alex Lanya who garnered 5,513 votes.

The poll was considered a three-horse race between ANC, UDA and ODM.
Other candidates in the race like Charles Kasamani (United Democratic Party) had 143, Paul Achayo (Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) 139 and Faida Auma (Maendeleo Chap Chap) 257.

ANC candidate Peter Nabulindo has won the Matungu by-election.

Voting in the Matungu parliamentary by-election kicked off smoothly this morning amidst low voter turnout.
Voters who turned out early morning said the exercise was smooth, applauding the punctuality of the entire process.
Strict health guidelines were also adhered to as no one was allowed in without a mask.
Some of the voters, however, faced some challenges during the identification process as their fingerprints could not be detected by the Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS).

Residents of Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies go to the polls to elect new MPs this morning amid claims of a plot to rig the election.
Yesterday, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi claimed some Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials met ODM leaders to strategise on how to influence the outcome of the by-election in Matungu.
On Tuesday, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala made similar claims.

The two Western by-elections in Matungu and Kabuchai have turned into a popularity contest for top politicians eyeing State House in the 2022 General Election.
Focus in the race has shifted to Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, as their candidates face off in the polls set for Thursday.
Dr Ruto, who has fielded candidates in both elections under the United Democratic Movement (UDA), is seeking to gauge his popularity after making forays in the region that has at least 1.9 million registered voters.

Deputy President William Ruto has suffered a huge blow after seven aspirants in Matungu parliamentary by-election rejected his offer to withdraw their candidature for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate.
According to a report by the Nation, the aspirants refused to drop their bid in order to support DP Ruto’s preferred candidate following a closed-door meeting in Nairobi.
UDA, a party associated with the deputy president is said to had invited a section of independent candidates from Matungu constituency but failed to convince them.
