Fox renews animated series Duncanville for a third season

The second season of Fox’s
Duncanville won’t premiere until next month, but the network has already ordered a third season of the animated comedy series from Mike and Julie Scully. This comes just a few days after Fox canceled
Bless The Harts, which always kind of fit in a similar slot as
Duncanville (they’re both modern Fox animated shows, for one thing), but
Bless The Harts evidently struggled to harder to find an audience—or maybe Mike Scully just carries a lot of weight at the network after his time on
The Simpsons. (A statement from Fox Entertainment executive Michael Thorn about the Scullys being “television’s best showrunners” seems to support this.)

Despite the studious efforts of Jesus Christ himself (a recurring Kumail Nanjiani), Fox’s
Bless The Harts has run out of divine steam after two seasons on the air.
Variety reports tonight that the animated comedy, which stars a ridiculous number of comedy ringers—Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell, Ike Barinholtz, Fortune Feimster, and more—will end with its second season in May of this year.

Harts centered on Wiig’s Jenny Hart, attempting to raise an artistically minded daughter (Bell) in small-town North Carolina while dealing with boyfriend Wayne (Barinholtz) and mom Betty (Rudolph). Also, sometimes she talks to Jesus, which, hey: It’s good to have friends.

It's time to say goodbye to our favorite broke North Carolina family as Fox has announced that there will be no "Bless the Harts" after the second season.
The animated comedy series stars the voices of Kristin Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ike Barinholtz.
"Bless the Harts" first premiered in the fall of 2019.
The show is the first of the new wave of animated series created for the network fresh from its break from Disney.
While FOX was happy with how the series shows-off creativity, "Bless the Harts" never gained traction in ratings.

Sunday’s 78th Golden Globe Awards, the HFPA’s first-ever bicoastal and virtual show, was hosted by longtime collaborators Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who had previously hosted the event consecutively from 2013 to 2015. Not even these fan-favorite female powerhouses, however, could save the socially distanced soirée from soured ratings.
Last night’s three-hour awards broadcast drew a mere 5.4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 according to non-time zone adjusted numbers from Nielsen. Though these early numbers are incomplete and don’t include viewing in the Pacific time zone, they paint a bleak picture for NBC, which in 2018 signed a new deal to pay roughly $60 million per year to televise the awards show. Last year, preliminary numbers were significantly higher, with the telecast averaging 14.8 million viewers and getting a 3.8 demo rating. Those numbers adjusted up to 18.3 million viewers and a 4.7 demo rating in final live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen.

“American Idol” on ABC led primetime Sunday night, according to Nielsen Live+Same Day fast affiliate ratings, scoring a 1.0 in the key, 18-49 demographic, and drawing more than 6.51 million viewers at 8 p.m. Other than the long-running singing competition’s telecast triumph, the alphabet network ran new episodes of ”America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m. (0.8, 5.18 million) which came second overall in the overnight rankings, and “The Rookie” at 10 p.m. (0.5, 3.92 million), which placed seventh.
Coming in third in Nielsen Live+Same Day for the evening of Sunday, Feb. 21 was a new episode of “60 Minutes,” which obtained a 0.7 in the key demo and attracted 9.30 million viewers. CBS also aired debut episodes of “The Equalizer” at 8 p.m. (0.7, 7.88 million), “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 p.m. (0.6, 5.74 million) and “NCIS: New Orleans” at 10 p.m. (0.5, 4.82 million).

The untitled series is set in mythical ancient Greece. It centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other. Fox is targeting a 2022 debut for the show. Voice casting is currently underway and will be announced in the coming months.

As part of Harmon’s deal with Fox, Fox Entertainment will fully finance and wholly own the series, with Fox’s Bento Box Entertainment providing the animation. It is the first series to move forward under Fox’s broadcast direct model.
