(Bloomberg) -- China is driving growth in Asia’s plant-based protein market as health-conscious consumers embrace an array of new products, according to Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., one of the world’s biggest agricultural traders.

The uptake of locally-sourced plant-based protein has generally been faster in China than in other parts of the world and the industry there is moving quickly beyond burger analogues, according to ADM Asia Pacific President Leo Liu. Alternatives to shrimp and shellfish, plant-based cheeses and ready-to-eat protein snacks are all becoming more popular, he said.

(Bloomberg) -- Beyond Meat Inc. shares gyrated sharply in after-market trading on Thursday as agreements with McDonald’s Corp. and Yum! Brands Inc. -- two of the largest fast-food companies in the world -- were offset by sales that missed expectations.
The stock sank 3.3% at 5:21 p.m. in New York. Competing news releases from the faux meat maker whipsawed the shares, with lackluster sales first sending them down as much as 11%, before news of the partnerships with Yum and McDonald’s caused a sharp reversal.

Beyond Meat and PepsiCo are creating a joint venture to develop snacks and drinks made from plant-based proteins.
The companies didn't reveal what kinds of products they will make Tuesday, saying they're still in development.
But the collaboration sent Beyond Meat's shares to their largest single-day gain since they began trading in 2019, jumping by more than $50 each to $209.17, and dropping down to around $186 by early afternoon.
Shares of PepsiCo. were up just 0.68% at $141 at 1 p.m. EST.
The joint venture gives Pepsi, a giant in both beverages and snack foods, access to one of the leading plant-based food companies at a time when consumers are increasingly cutting back on meat consumption and looking for healthier, more sustainable foods. Beyond Meat's burgers, sausages and chicken, which are made from pea protein, are sold worldwide, including at Starbucks in China and Pizza Hut in the U.S.
