A Christchurch woman badly injured in the 2011 quake and wrongly cut off from ACC payments is owed more than $236,000 in backdated compensation - but more than half will be used to refund another
government department for benefits she was forced to seek to survive.
Tattoo artist Bonnie Singh is now appealing the "debt" and feels ACC should repay it out of its own coffers, saying if her weekly compensation wasn't stopped she never would have needed benefits.

A woman crushed in the Christchurch earthquake was accidentally cut off from ACC payments for seven years - 14-Dec-2020

A woman almost killed in the Christchurch earthquake was wrongly cut off by ACC
14 December 2020
The 2011 quake that killed Bonnie Singh's colleague, left her with eight broken vertebrae, a head injury and PTSD.
But Herald reporter Anna Leask told Chris Lynch ACC said she was ready to go back to work too soon, and payments have only now been reinstated -- seven years later.
She says Bonnie wanted to share her story -- so others in a similar situation know to speak up for the support they need.

A woman almost killed in the Christchurch quake - crawling out of rubble with eight broken vertebrae - has been fighting ACC for more than a year to get injury funding and support reinstated after
she was wrongly cut off in 2013.
Bonnie Singh was working as a receptionist at the Southern Ink tattoo studio in February 2011.
She was sitting chatting to trainee tattoo artist and close friend Matti McEachan when the city started to shake.
