Conditions were beautiful but tricky for an interesting final round at the Margaret River Pro this weekend following four days on hold as officials waited for the wind and waves to align.
Both the men and the women’s side saw some of the biggest names notably absent on finals day. After a dominating start to the event, John John Florence withdrew before his quarterfinals start citing a knee injury that he wants to take care of as we head into the Olympic debut of surfing where he hopes to represent Team USA, and Caroline Marks was knocked out in the Round of 16 by Bronte Macaulay (both massive losses for my WSL Fantasy team).

Santa Barbara Pro Surfer Conner Coffin Places 2nd in Australia's Narrabeen Classic | Sports

Coffin pulled out the victory with a 13.83-11.03 decision.
Coffin’s advancement to the final follows the 27-year-old’s fifth-place finish at the Rip Curl Newcastle Cup presented by Corona.
Securing second place at Narrabeen puts Coffin in the elite top five on the 2021 World Surf League Men’s Championship Tour, and marks only the second time he has made his way to a final since his rookie year on the tour in 2016 in Portugal.
His rise through the ranks of nearly 40 of the world’s top surfers serves as proof that, despite the year’s delayed starts in contest scheduling and COVID-related quarantines, his focus and commitment are paying off.

Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach canceled for 2021

Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach canceled for 2021

The World Surf League (WSL) announced the cancellation of the 2021 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach in Australia.
The professional surfing circuit revealed that it was "unable to secure a pre-approved bubble in Victoria ahead of the event."
WSL doesn't go into detail, but it's clear that Covid-19-related restrictions forced the cancellation of the legendary competition.
The event has been held since 1961, when George "Ming" Smith won the first edition of the Bells Beach Surf Classic.
In 2020, the threat of a global pandemic had already prevented it from getting underway.
"Unfortunately, we had to cancel the competition because keeping Surf Coast Shire and Victoria Covid-19-free is a top priority," explained Neil Ridgway, brand and marketing manager at Rip Curl.
