Royal blue had Mother Nature on their side. They built an early lead and held on to beat gray 13-10 in a rain-shortened game Thursday at field 2 in Brahan Spring Park. The teams play in the 55-and-over Rockets league in Huntsville Senior Softball. âItâs five innings. Itâs an official game,â royal blue player/coach Bob Thomson said while leaving the field in a downpour. Jorge Marin hit a three-run homer while Jerry Bevel had a two-run shot for royal blue (4-4). Jim âHitmanâ Myers pitched all five innings for the win as royal blue snapped a two-game losing streak.
I rolled up to the ballpark an hour early. Like Aerosmith, I just didnât want to miss a thing. It was Monday, April 5, the first day of preseason games for the 55-and-over Rockets league in Huntsville Senior Softball. With the season starting April 12, games are Monday and Thursday evenings on fields 1 and 2 at Brahan Spring Park. Iâm particularly stoked about this season because of the addition of a sixth team. Trailing 12-11 after four innings, the maroon scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth and blanked red in the seventh. âThatâs probably the scrappiest game weâve ever won,â maroon player/coach Eddie Johnson said. âWe couldâve folded at any time and we didnât.â Scott Landers went 4-for-4 with a solo homer, three runs batted in and two runs scored. David Allen hit a thr...
Kelly showed heâs still got skills. He hit a grand slam as the gray beat the green 22-18 in a season opener at field 2 in Brahan Spring Park. He went 2-for-2 with five runs batted in and three runs scored. On defense, the shortstop started a double play and made five assists and four putouts. âItâs fun, itâs competitive,â Kelly said. âThe guys have great spirit. Everybodyâs just having fun.â He retired in 2001 after 22 and a half years in uniform. He had 10 more years as an Army civilian before retiring in November 2019. David McNeill hit a two-run home...
