At least 17 workers were killed Wednesday and dozens of others may be trapped in a railway bridge collapse in northeast India.

Railway officials said around 40 laborers were on the bridge when it collapsed.

Part of a bridge collapsed on Sunday along a ring road in Patras, Greece's third-largest city, killing one person and injuring eight, the fire brigade said. Fire brigade rescuers were on the scene to pull out any people trapped, fire brigade spokesman Ioannis Artopoios said. Part of the bridge was reduced to a mass of broken concrete slabs and iron rods and dozens of rescuers were working at the spot, footage from Greek media showed.

According to State Emergency Operation Centre officials, the incident took place at Loona area of Bharmour village in the outskirts of Chamba district

The bridge was essential for connectivity as it connected a population of 20,000 people from three village panchayats to the National Highway-31 passing through Bihar. There was no life loss reported in the incident.
