Kambwili insists he remains NDC president – Zambia: News Diggers!

CHISHIMBA Kambwili says there is only one NDC president, and that’s him.
And Kambwili has charged that the other NDC group is just a bunch of indisciplined officials on suspension.
Last week, the Josephs Akafumba led NDC sued Kambwili in the Lusaka High Court, seeking an injunction to restrain him from masquerading as NDC president or purporting to transact any business in the party’s name.
Bridget Atanga, suing in her capacity as NDC secretary general, is seeking among other claims, a declaration that the gathering held by Kambwili and his cohorts on February 27, 2021 in Luanshya which purported to suspend some party members including herself, is null and void ab initio and therefore of no effect for having been convened and held in the absence of any party constitutional provision.

Background
Mr. Hakainde Hichilema had just emerged from the Party General Assembly where he not only went unopposed for the position of the UPND Presidency but also amended the Party Constitution to ensure no candidate contest for a specific office of the National Management Committee but everyone would be appointed by him.
From the UPND General Assembly, Mr. Hichilema had just become a god to UPND members who had been elected to nameless positions in the NMC, as KK was to UNIP when all party powers had been vested in him in 1971.

Quickly, Mr Hichilema’s next task was: how to deal with the Alliance now that he had successfully managed to deal with his internal party politics. The danger in that Alliance was the National Democratic Party (NDC) and Chishimba Kambwili. The other so-called Opposition Alliance members are just nothing but shell of themselves having no influence and no following at all.

I’M not against the alliance, we are against an alliance where our party will not be respected and will be turned into UPND, Chishimba Kambwili has insisted.
And Kambwili says NDC is no longer a member of the UPND Alliance, unless otherwise.
Meanwhile, Kambwili says the central committee of NDC has resolved to suspend party vice president Joseph Akafumba, NDC secretary general Bridget Atanga and Roan member of parliament Joseph Chishala, among others who announced his “illegal” expulsion on Friday.
Addressing the media after a central committee meeting, Saturday, Kambwili said UPND had suggested that the alliance be called “UPND Alliance” but NDC was against the idea and made other suggestions which were all rejected.
