BSP chief Mayawati has officially announced her nephew, Akash Anand, as her successor. She has assigned him the task of strengthening the party in states other than Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while she will continue to oversee affairs in these two crucial northern states. The announcement was made during a closed-door all-India meeting of senior party members at the BSP headquarters in Lucknow. Though Mayawati did not make a public announcement, party leaders confirmed the decision.

Talking to HT, Ali maintained that irrespective of the BSP’s decision to suspend him, he would continue to fight the BJP.

Former Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati has named her nephew Akash Anand as her successor at the BSP's all-India meeting in Lucknow. Mayawati's concern is to revive the party's old support base in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Akash, BSP's national coordinator, will continue to strengthen the party's support base in other states.
