The Rhode Island Department of Health is advising people of a voluntary recall by Lancaster Foods LLC of its processed butternut squash items due to potential for Listeria Monocytogenes contamination.  
The recalled items were distributed in retail stores in several states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Lancaster Foods has temporarily halted production of these items while it investigates the source of the issue. Consumers who have purchased the products listed below are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Butternut squash items were recalled by Lancaster Foods LLC due to possible listeria contamination.
The company issued a voluntary recall on all its processed butternut squash items. In the company's Jan. 19 announcement posted on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) website, the recall was made because the products have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. The recall covers several states which include Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, D.C., Vermont, and Virginia.

Listeria Monocytogenes. This foodborne illness can be particularly risky to young kids, as well elderly and frail people, and anyone suffering from a weakened immune system.
The company says as part of its voluntary recall that its recalled butternut squash products were distributed in multiple states through retail stores, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Washington DC, Maryland, and Connecticut.

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Lancaster Foods LLC has recalled certain conventional processed butternut squash items citing the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
The products recalled included Autumn Medley, Butternut Squash Noodles, Butternut Squash Planks, Squash Noodle Medley, Butternut Squash Chunks, and Veggie Rice Blend in various measures. The affected Butternut Squash items were processed between December 22, 2020 and January 8, 2021.
These items were distributed in around 12 states mainly through retail stores.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. The symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
