Thank God last night’s game didn’t take place at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
The Calgary Flames wanted no parts of an offensive shootout with the Montreal Canadiens. Not with a new (well, old?) coach coming in. Not with the team needing a win after dropping their last two.

It’s been well over a year since Carey Price recorded a shutout in a regular season game. If you’re counting playoffs, Price hasn’t had a shutout since last August against the Philadelphia Flyers.

About Last Night: Mistake after mistake hurt the Canadiens against the Jets

Article content
Mistakes were made. They cost the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night.
It didn’t matter if the Canadiens once again found success on their power play. It didn’t matter if the Canadiens negated both of Winnipeg’s power play opportunities. The Canadiens outshot the Jets 36-27. Jonathan Drouin put together a solid effort and got an assist on the game-tying goal (it was initially believed that he scored before the NHL gave it to Corey Perry).

About Last Night: Why aren't goals and wins coming easy to the Canadiens anymore?

Article content
I don’t think I could sum up these last few games any better than how Montreal Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot did last night.
“At the beginning, things were coming pretty easy for us,” he said. “We were scoring in bunches. Skating well. It’s gotten a little tighter. Anytime you see a team at the top of the standings you’re going to have a little more energy, a little more juice when you come to play them. I think that’s what we’re seeing right now.
“The puck’s not going in as easy for us and teams are a bit more excited to come in and play us. There’s going to be ups and downs in a season and you just have to grind through them.”

About Last Night: The Montreal Canadiens were limited offensively by the Leafs

Article content
The same high-flying offence from the Montreal Canadiens that wowed fans at the start of the season has hit a bit of a snag.
Montreal has been held to two goals in each of their last three games after a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. The Canadiens were also held to a pair of goals in back-to-back games against the Ottawa Senators, a team that many (myself included) thought might be left in the dust due to Montreal’s league-best offence.
The Canadiens still lead the league in goals for per game, but it was once above four goals a game. It’s since fallen to 3.85.
