49ers Announce a Series of Roster Moves ahead of the Start of Camp
San Francisco 49ers
28 Jul 2021, 23:44 GMT+10
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday they have signed DL Eddie Yarbrough and DL Anthony Zettel to one-year deals. The team also announced the following roster moves:
The following players have been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List:
DB Tarvarius Moore
CB Emmanuel Moseley
WR Andy Jones
Yarbrough (6-3, 259) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2016. Following his release from Denver on September 3, 2016, he later signed with the Buffalo Bills on April 7, 2017, where he appeared in 31 games (six starts) and registered 62 tackles, two passes defensed and 1.0 sack in three years with the team (2017-19). He also started one postseason contest and added five tackles. In 2020, he spent time on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, later appeared in four games and finished with eight tackles.

'About time': LGBTQ Olympic athletes unleash a rainbow wave

TOKYO (AP) — When Olympic diver Tom Daley announced in 2013 that he was dating a man and “couldn't be happier,” his coming out was an act of courage that, with its rarity, also exposed how the top echelons of sport weren't seen as a safe space by the vast majority of LGBTQ athletes.
Back then, the number of gay Olympians who felt able and willing to speak openly about their private lives could be counted on a few hands. There'd been just two dozen openly gay Olympians among the more than 10,000 who competed at the 2012 London Games, a reflection of how unrepresentative and anachronistic top-tier sports were just a decade ago and, to a large extent, still are.

Jon Gruden: Raiders DEs Carl Nassib, Clelin Ferrell will 'have to earn their snaps'

Copied!
From the Bay Area to the Nevada desert, Jon Gruden and the Raiders' odyssey to find a formidable pass rush has carried on.
One of the Raiders' latest attempts at fortifying the rush came with the offseason signing of Yannick Ngakoue. With Ngakoue and Maxx Crosby likely to man the starting spots on the edge, that leaves two notable names vying for reps in the rotation: former first-round pick Clelin Ferrell and Carl Nassib.
Thus, there will be some competition off the edge as Raiders camp gets underway.
"Ferrell, he's a good player," Gruden told reporters in his Tuesday news conference. "He's unique because he can play right end, he can play left end, he's a good run defender. I think his best pass rush might be inside -- and you saw that against the Jets when we allowed him to do that last year. But certainly, he's going to be competing, he and Carl Nassib, who had a really good spring. They're going to have to earn their snaps, and if you know Cle, you know he will compete. And you probably should count on him being a big part of this."

Brands wake up to LGBTQ sponsorship deals as acceptance grows in sport

Jul 24, 2021
NEW YORK – Coming out used to be the kiss of death for sponsorship deals in sports. But as a record number of openly LGBTQ athletes participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, marketing analysts say the opposite is now true: authenticity sells.
Recently, Canadian ice hockey player Luke Prokop followed in the footsteps of American football star Carl Nassib in becoming the first openly gay athletes still active in their respective sports — and potential sponsors are circling, experts said.
“These athletes are exhibiting degrees of courage and authenticity, which are always good traits for a brand,” said Paul Hardart, a marketing professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Tokyo Olympics: GB's only openly gay athletics star Tom Bosworth urges more Olympians to come out

'I didn't expect it to change my life as much as it did because I had already spoken to my family and my club,' says the 31-year-old about coming out on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show in 2015.
'But it opened my eyes to the world of sport that is not in the 21st century at all.
'I can't believe that I had such an impact as I did. It shows just us how few people have done what I did. In countries where a lot of sport is played and publicised, it makes no sense.
'I am aware of more athletes who now are living quite openly but there are still very few at the highest level representing their country.

Nashville prospect Luke Prokop announces he is gay

The 19-year old was drafted in the third round of last year’s NHL Draft and played for the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League in Canada last season.
He told ESPN coming out publicly would help ease his mind and play his best.
“Luke is a valued prospect of the Nashville Predators and we think he has a bright future,” said Nashville President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile in a statement. “We want Luke to become a successful hockey player, and we understand his ability to be out comfortably will help him achieve his goals on and off the ice. We are committed to ensuring nothing stands in the way of his ability. His courage is an inspiration to us, and to the LGBTQ community in Nashville.”
