According to the department, lab results of stool specimens from 19 people who presented at Jubilee District Hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and nausea confirmed that it was cholera.
Cilliers was due to visit the Jubilee Hospital in Hammanskraal early today after health officials in the province confirmed yesterday that samples from affected patients had picked up the presence of cholera.
The Gauteng Health Department said 37 people were admitted to the Jubilee District Hospital with cholera symptoms
Nkomo-Ralehoko said that following the sampling of 19 specimens from people who presented with symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and nausea, they could confirm that there was an outbreak of cholera in the area.
