57 years after the 1964 coup, Brazil again confronts specter of dictatorship

57 years after the 1964 coup, Brazil again confronts specter of dictatorship
President Jair Bolsonaro’s sudden firing of his defense minister and the entire command of the armed forces has unleashed an unprecedented military and political crisis in Brazil.
That the fascistic Brazilian president’s action coincided with the anniversary of the 1964 US-backed military coup was no coincidence. Bolsonaro is an unabashed defender of the military overthrow of President Joao Goulart, which ushered in two decades of blood-soaked dictatorship against the working class and the youth in Brazil and a wave of similar coups across South America.

Checking In On Real Madrid As We Approach The End Of Hell Week

These observations — where I look at
.
Two major rivals — one on the European scale, the other a domestic adversary — have been on the menu in the span of five days. Welcome to hell week! We endure one of these periods almost every season (and often twice). Sometimes hell week extends to a full 18 days, as it did in 2011. This is child’s play, and Real Madrid have, until now, shown no mercy beating up two of their younger brothers in their quest for the double. On Wednesday the trilogy concludes. Put your gloves on.

The chances of powerful geomagnetic storms may have just doubled -- Science & Technology -- Sott.net

Thu, 08 Apr 2021 07:34 UTC
If you think you are safe from geomagnetic storms, think again. A new study just published in the journal
Space Weather finds that powerful storms may be twice as likely as previously thought.
Jeffrey Love of the US Geological Survey, who authored the study, analyzed Earth's strongest geomagnetic storms since the early 1900s. Previous studies looked back only to the 1950s. The extra data led to a surprise:
"A storm as intense as, say, the Québec Blackout of 1989 is predicted to occur, on average, about every four solar cycles. This is twice as often as estimated using only the traditional shorter dataset," says Love.

Brazilian pilot survives 38 days in Amazon after crash - Newspaper

BRASLIA: Antonio Sena was flying a single-prop Cessna 210 over the Brazilian Amazon when the engine suddenly stopped, leaving him minutes to find a spot in the jungle to crash-land.
He survived with no injuries, but was stranded in the middle of the world’s largest rainforest — the start of a 38-day trek he says taught him one of the biggest lessons of his life.
Sena, 36, was hired to fly a cargo run from the northern town of Alenquer to an illegal gold mine in the rainforest, known as the “California”. Flying at an altitude of about 3,000 feet, he knew when the engine stopped halfway he did not have much time.
