Parkinson’s disease is characterized by the presence of fibrils of α-synuclein. It has been shown that α-synuclein fibrils can be transmitted from neuron to neuron. However, whether α-synuclein spreading occurs before its aggregation remains unclear. Researchers from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) showed that monomeric α-synuclein can propagate through the brain lymphatic system before it aggregates. This study might contribute to the development of new strategies to limit the progression of Parkinson’s disease.
