Raffaele Fantetti is the leader of this group of 10 senators – a new political project that openly embraces the European Union’s values. On January 29, Italian President Sergio Mattarella ended his first round of consultations with the political forces in order to find a concrete outcome to the current political crisis.

You and senator Mariarosaria Rossi abandoned Forza Italia in order to support the PM Conte political majority? How did this happen?
Andrea Causin (AC): Myself and Senator Rossi gave a message after a clear plea regarding the situation in our country coming from President Sergio Mattarella. Then there was another plea from in the Senate from PM Giuseppe Conte. His call is full of political elements for the future, like his proposal for a new proportional electoral law and the need in the Italian political arena for new political groups that have a clear pro-European agenda. I think that with our vote of support we gave an important indication.
