Chadwick Boseman posthumously won the award for Best Actor for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. His wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award on his behalf. The late actor won over Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Tahar Rahim, and Riz Ahmed in the Drama category.
He won for his portrayal of a trumpet player named Levee in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom over fellow nominees Gary Oldman (Mank), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian), and Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal).

As the world still mourns the actor's death, his legacy lives on with Simone noting he "made a practice of telling the truth" as she accepted his Gotham Awards Tribute prize.
Appearing via video link to the virtual ceremony in Manhatten, she said: "He is the most honest person I'd ever met.
"He actively searched for it, in himself, those around him and the moment. The truth can be a very easy thing for the self to avoid. But if one does not live in truth, then it's impossible to live life."
She explained that it was "how he lived his life, day in and day out".
