there will be rain across the scottish borders and northern ireland, showers and a western fringes across the channel coast, thicken us for some drizzle. the best of the sun shone out to these but as we go through the evening hours there showers might fade away and skies will stay a little clearer. so it will be a slightly cooler night, still pretty mild for the time of year, but temperatures will for many dip down into single figures. we will start off with some early morning sunshine, may be a touch of celtic frost in the far north—east of scotland where it is going to be coldest clouding over from the west quite quickly on thursday and there will be more cloud and wind and rain arriving into the north—west by the end of the afternoon. in terms of the feel of the weather, temperatures are likely to peak between seven and 13 celsius, it continues to turn wet and windy from the west through the night. you were watching bbc news. we are expecting to hear very shortly from the prime minister, he

and again, that heavy rain affecting eastern scotland, the north of england. not too bad i think tomorrow — southern wales and along the channel coast. this is friday. the low pressure is still here. it's still pushing in moisture clouds, rain clouds, into eastern areas through the course of the day. so that's where we'll get most of the rainfall through the rest of the week the further north—east you are. whereas, in the south—west, it's actually going to be better in places like plymouth. and then, in the weekend, again, a bit of a mixed bag. i suspect southern areas on saturday may not be too bad.

eastwards on tuesday, the low in the west takes over. this is a much more lively front, this will bring heavy downpours to areas in its path. it will also move through pretty quickly, however. so, brighterskies coming in the afternoon, for northern ireland, wales and the southwest but with some squally showers coming in on the winds. and then for the middle of the week, we are very confident that we're going to be dominated by low pressure. so, there will be rain around and it will be windy. but as to where we see the heaviest rain and the strongest winds, that is varying a little. as we get closer to the time, we should be able to bring in more detail. current thinking, wednesday, very wet across the southern half of the uk. the rain shifting north later in the day. strong winds across england and wales, particularly wednesday evening and particularly along the channel coast, and then into the small hours of thursday, some of the strongest of winds for the northeast of england, the northeast of scotland. we could even see storm force winds across the northern isles for a time early on on thursday. thursday and friday, generally seeing things tending to become a little quieter. still breezy on thursday, still quite a lot of showers around. friday, drier for many. but the upshot of this week's
