A drifter who admired the Joker from Batman and dressed as him to carry out a Halloween attack on a Tokyo train "wanted to kill lots of people" and planned his moves over months, buying a knife to use in the internet, police and media said.

The 24-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene Sunday night on suspicion of attempted murder after the knife and arson attack, which injured 17 people.
The suspect allegedly chose Halloween for the attack because he knew there would be a lot of people on the train.
