Deadly Jonny books a date with the Wallabies
England will play defending champions and host nation Australia in the World Cup final at Telstra Stadium next Saturday after Jonny Wilkinson's mighty left boot struck gold.
Wilkinson kicked all England's points - five penalties and three drop goals - despite horrendous conditions.
French flanker Serge Betsen scored the semi-final's only try, but England had greater control up front when it really mattered.
In Wilkinson, they possessed a priceless match-winner, who passed 800 points for his country.
It was not pretty - the weather dictated that - yet England can now look forward to their first World Cup final appearance for 12 years.

The passing of Maradona, who dragged Argentina to glory at the 1986 World Cup where he scored the ‘Goal of the Century’ against England — as well as the infamous ‘Hand of God’ goal, led to three days of national mourning in his home country.

Rugby World Cup draw whets appetite for France serving up a classic in 2023

It would also grasp the lapels of every other would-be contender and shape a World Cup which, even at this range, has a tasty look to it. Whatever the France-New Zealand outcome, there is now a fair chance of England – if they can top Pool D ahead of Japan and Argentina and survive a potential quarter-final against Wales – playing the winners in the last four. Nor is it impossible that Eddie Jones’s team will once again be asked to beat Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on successive weekends if they are to lift the trophy. Two out of three will not be enough, as they discovered in Japan last year.

"I missed them very much and I wanted to spend more time with my wife and three young sons.

"I'm not thinking of playing abroad either because the New Zealand borders are still closed," he said.

France winger Teddy Thomas scored a crucial late try as he made his return to the Racing 92 lineup and clinched a 17-12 win at Bordeaux-Begles in the French Top 14.
Thomas, 27, was able to play for his club and not against England on Sunday because he has already featured in the maximum of three team sheets during the ongoing Autumn Nations Cup.
"Honestly when you have Teddy (Thomas) beside you, you just have to give him the ball and he does the rest," scrum-half Teddy Iribaren, who set up the try, told Canal+.
"It was a difficult game, against a good team in unique conditions. We lifted our play at the end."
