A new mass vaccination site at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston began operations on Thursday. Eventually, the site will expand and replace the vaccination operation at Fenway Park. CIC Health, which runs those sites for the state, said there will be a soft launch at the Hynes this week and the official launch on Monday. The site in Boston's Back Bay will eventually administer nearly 9,000 shots a day, which will make it the largest mass vaccination operation in Massachusetts. The Pfizer vaccine will be administered at the site, but that may change later depending on the vaccine supply the state receives, CIC Health said. The transition from Fenway to Hynes will be gradual, with the operation at the ballpark winding down until it ceases operations on March 27 to make way for preparation for the baseball season. As of Monday, the state is expected to allow sporting venues to have 12% capacity in the stands, which translates to about 4,500 fans for Fenway for Opening Day on April 1.The clinic at Fenway is expected to have delivered more than 55,000 doses before completing the move to the Hynes.Vaccination progress in Massachusetts:

Education commissioner gets OK to force schools to reopen
March 5, 2021
FacebookTwitterEmail
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts' education commissioner has been given the greenlight to compel districts to return to in-person classes, roughly a year after the coronavirus pandemic forced them to shutter schools and switch to online classes.
The Friday decision by the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education follows Republican Gov. Charlie Baker's announcement earlier this week that teachers and other school employees will be eligible for coronavirus vaccinations starting next week.
“Now is the time to begin moving children back to school more robustly,” Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley said before the board's vote.

Stowe High hosts free COVID testing clinic this weekend

Stowe High School hosts a two-day COVID-19 testing clinic this weekend amid reports that the town has registered more virus cases than any other in Lamoille County during the past two weeks.
The testing clinic runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 6, and 9-2 Sunday, at 413 Barrows Road.
Testing is free and anyone being tested at the sites can take their own samples, using a short swab in the nose, rather than having a health care worker “tickle your brain,” as many are wont to say.
Register online ahead of time at healthvermont.gov/covid19testing, or just show up.

Boston vaccination site looks to serve communities of color

Updated: 11:23 AM EST Feb 28, 2021
A community-led partnership in Boston is working to vaccinate more people of color against the coronavirus. The Black Boston COVID-19 Coalition has partnered with CIC Health to take over operations at the vaccination site inside the Reggie Lewis Center in the city's Roxbury neighborhood. The coalition is hosting a two-day Black History Month vaccination event this weekend in the hopes of changing perceptions of the COVID-19 vaccine in Black and brown communities."We felt it was very important to recruit as many people that looked like and reflect the population that we're serving," said Dr. Ellana Stinson, manager of the medical site. "By doing this, I feel like a lot of comments that I've been hearing are that patients are really excited that they were able to participate in this and have this experience."BBCC organizers say vaccine registrations by the city's Black and Latino residents have defied all expectations.U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Donna Harris Lewis, the widow of former Boston Celtics captain Reggie Lewis, visited the vaccination site on Saturday, along with Boston's Black and Latino elected officials.
