Ocado and KP Snacks detail progress on plastic phase-outs

Ocado and KP Snacks detail progress on plastic phase-outs
Online retailer Ocado had launched a refresh of its own-range products that will remove more than nine million pieces of packaging while also reducing the amount of plastic used, while KP Snacks has also announced packaging reductions.
Both organisations have successfully removed plastics from a range of products
Ocado’s product refresh accounts for more than 530 products, ranging from coffees and salads to tinned goods.
The refresh will see the removal of nine million non-essential packaging components from Ocado’s own-brand products. Across the range, around 27 tonnes of plastic has been removed, including 640,000 plastic nets. An adhesive label has also been removed on items such as egg boxes, with information now printed directly onto the box, saving around 10 tonnes of paper annually.

Circular economy models reduce costs and boost sales for major fashion brands

Circular economy models reduce costs and boost sales for major fashion brands
Outerwear brand FW and fashion platform Farfetch have revealed the results of two-year pilots of circular economy models, pledging to expand them following positive financial results.

The two brands first announced the trials, carried out in partnership with ReLondon and QSA Partners, back in early 2019. FW added a ‘gold standard’ repair service to Its new brand as standard, while Farfetch launched two re-commerce offerings.
A new report published today (15 March) outlines the benefits of these trials. FW has seen the costs associated with its returns under warranty decrease by 60% under the programme, the report reveals, with customers increasingly opting for verified repairs over refunds or replacements. This, in turn, keeps materials in use, reducing environmental impacts as well as costs.

Procter & Gamble (P&G) has launched a refill format that uses 60% less plastic across several of its most popular shampoo brands in the UK.

The format consists of a reusable aluminium bottle and refill pouches, which consist of a flexible plastic packet and a rigid plastic neck. P&G claims that the pouches can be recycled through kerbside collections in the UK and that the refill pouches use 60% less plastic per millilitre of product than traditional shampoo bottles, as they are lighter.
P&G is using the format to house selected Aussie, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences and Pantene lines in the UK. Aluminium bottles and refill pouches for all four brands have launched at Boots stores and on the Boots site this week, with roll-outs also underway at Waitrose & Partners and Superdrug. Bottles have an RRP of £9.99 and the RRP for pouches starts at £4.
