want to take responsibility for this, how they want to describe their military action, whether they want to say that this is concluded, that from their perspective this is a reprisal on the attack and not the end of what they're going to do, or whether they will signal something more ambiguous. so you have to understand, diplomatically, what is israel going to say? then you make a determination about whether you are going to confirm events and then how you're going to describe the american view of what took place. the biden administration is in a particularly difficult circumstance here because they canceled -- counseled israel to not engage in a military strike. so they are in a difficult bind here because simultaneously, they have generally cited obviously with israel in these conflicts and yet they have been on the record in saying that israel should not undertake this action against iran in response to the attack.

messages point i think also, in this situation, lawrence, where, let's face it, we step back, there are global ramifications here point a full all-out war between israel and u iran could have enormous ramifications for the global economy, for energy markets. china, i think, is probably a , source of messaging for the united states. the u.s. going to the chinese, obviously a lot of input with iran and saying, look, can you please communicate this is not the time to escalate, this is not the time to have another all-out war in the middle east and so i think the u.s. is probably trying everything they can ironically, in this circumstance, the u.s. advised israel is not always necessarily been heated under prime minister netanyahu and so we are simultaneously trying to de- escalate ryin terms of the israeli action, as well as the iranian response point >> what will you be looking for first thing in the morning at the right house -- white house. >> the first question is will

requests because it plays very well politically at home. people at home feel very strongly that they need to be forceful. they have every right to defend their homeland. imagine if this were a u.s.... the american people would want a very forceful response. they want to partner with israel to make sure they are safe and there are a key ally in the region. on the other hand it is a little bit complicated especially in states like michigan for example while some people will hear that and say wire we talking about domestic politics, this is a global circumstance. it is relevant. between now and november, issues like this, strikes like this, a conflict like this, ongoing circumstances like this could very well determine who will be in the white house.

very key battleground states. i think this is an element to keep an eye on. there will be reaction that the white house will have to contend with. there's a political angle here at home. and so i think the white house did what it had to do. it was in constant contact. >> it would appear again, jonathan, i can only tell you, based on what we've heard so far, it would appear that the israelis demonstrated a bit of restraint here. and if that is the case, that would certainly be a win for washington. that would also be a win for the netanyahu administration, because it means that, yes, they've given iran a chance to back out of this gracefully and hopefully in total, we can see a de-escalation of what is obviously a powder keg of a circumstance right now jonathan. >> yeah, and kevin, it is one thing speaking from a domestic political point of view, which you are so good at breaking down for, is for the united states, the white house to support israel against iran, domestically for president biden. it gets a whole lot more complicated in terms of electing world politics to give outright support

news news agency jonathan says that everything is fine in esfahan. they say there's been no major circumstances of change, anything. they are operating as normal. it is also home to a major iranian nuclear facility in that town. and yet you would expect that the iranians would sort of paint this as much ado about nothing. now, i want to add one more thing. >> from the white house's perspective. this is also complicated. you made a great point in our last hour that while. yes, the u.s. and israel remain key partners in the region, this administration has run afoul politically, domestically ,for its support of israel's entanglements in other areas, specifically gaza. this is a wildly different circumstance from the outside. however, they have to be careful to not be seen as wanting, running or walking lockstep, if you will, with the israeli government, whether

is going to be a major concern over the next number of weeks as this trial goes on. and some things you can predict, some things you cannot. and this is one of the mass events which we would never have predicted someone would make such a drastic move. that's where we are, and we have to be prepared for the thing that will come along the next number of weeks. >> are there likely things that investigators will look at, for example, is it someone that wanted to bring attention to something that in any other circumstance might have been a private situation, but they know they literally do have the attention of the world with all the media that's there? >> well, certainly can be. we certainly don't know yet if there's any nexus to this individual who set themselves on fire, whether they were going to do this anyway or this is just their way of somehow protesting one way or another the trial that's going on.

a a juror that's been empaneled on the initial 12 experiences and while the alternative experience. >> so the alternate, i mean, really they should experience the same thing in terms of receiving all of the evidence and observing all of the proceedings because the purpose of the alternatives is that in any circumstance that a sitting juror can't continue to serve, and there could be a whole variety of reasons. there could be something that actually comes up like we've seen earlier in this week where someone has then dismissed that indicates the judge decides that person can't sit on the jury anymore, and you know, it could be someone talks to the media. i mean, there's a whole range of issues or it could be something personal of nature. somebody gets sick or it has a family issue, and so they just can't continue to serve. so those alternatives, particularly in this case given the scrutiny that both the prosecutors and the defense are going to give the jurors on an ongoing basis. i think these alternates are so important they might wind up getting called a fairly quickly care record arrow. thanks so much for the analysis. appreciate it. jessica.

>> so anything the judge will have to evaluate each particular piece of evidence that the prosecution wants to launch against the former president to impeach him, impeach in the sense of just demonstrate to the jury that he is not truthful and then prior circumstances, his testimony should not be weighted heavily based on prior untruthfulness. so that is in the scenario that he would decide to testify himself, which still would be an enormous question mark. and i tend to think that his defense attorneys would incline be inclined to guide him not to but that will i think the judge will have to consider each individual circumstance and whether each piece of information needs is appropriate to be entered. >> all right. we're just waiting here on the next few moments, we will see donald trump heading to the courthouse where there'll be 96 potential jurors who will be questions. >> carry cordero. thank you so much. appreciate your time this morning. okay an american
