Renewable energy is the future and helps rural communities
Minnesota's power grid is not ready for the flood of renewable energy projects that are expected to come online as the state transitions toward 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040, according to industry experts and the state's largest electric utility.
Fifteen months after Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, the state hasn’t begun its promised workforce development programs aimed at helping minority contractors and workers.
The Duluth-based Minnesota Power said it will add up to 700 megawatts of renewable energy to its power generating portfolio. It's a considerable increase over the 300 megawatts of solar and wind it initially proposed.
The company reached an agreement with clean energy groups just before their plan goes in front of state regulators.
