Nigeria star Onuachu scores goal no. 26 in First Division A as Genk win five-goal thriller

Card image cap

Over a week ago, Onuachu made a statement in Nigeria's national team during the just-concluded international break after scoring a goal each in their last two 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
He scored the late match-winning goal in the Super Eagles’ 1-0 result against Benin in Porto-Novo and later sealed their 3-0 triumph over Lesotho in Lagos last Tuesday.
Onuachu’s heroics did not end with the international break as he scored what turned out to be the winning goal for Genk in Monday’s outing.
The former Midtjylland striker sealed maximum points for the visitors in Heverlee after goals from Kristian Thorstvedt, Theo Bongonda had put them ahead.

12 months ago this week, Belgian publication Walfoot claimed Emmanuel Dennis was a transfer target for Arsenal, Manchester United, Leicester City and, well, almost every club in the Premier League.
And, at the time, it was easy to understand why Club Brugge’s Nigeria international had sent so many scouts into such a frenzy.
A man for the big occasion, Dennis followed up a coming-of-age, two-goal performance away at Real Madrid in the Champions League with a gorgeous Europa League lob against Man United.

Winger Tahith Chong insists he has not given much thought to his Manchester United future during a couple of loan spells this season.
Chong, 21, spent the first half of the season on loan with German club Werder Bremen. But that was cut short in January, with the youngster having made just four league starts for Die Werderaner. With no prospect of senior football at Old Trafford, the decision was taken to find him a new temporary home. And that came in Belgium, with Chong penning a six-month loan deal with Club Brugge.

After 20 UEFA club competition games, Erling Haaland has scored an astonishing 24 goals, and he has registered at least once against every single side he has met in the UEFA Champions League. As the 20-year-old prepares to face his father Alf-Inge Håland's old club, Manchester City, marvel at his stats so far.
• With 24 in 20 European games so far, Haaland is scoring at an unprecedented rate. At the same point in their careers, the other modern greats had nothing like his goalscoring potency; after 20 European matches, Kylian Mbappé had scored 12 goals, Lionel Messi eight, Robert Lewandowski six and Cristiano Ronaldo just one.

Where are they now? Liverpool's second string XI vs Real Madrid in 2014

Card image cap

6th April 2021
Liverpool and Real Madrid have met surprisingly few times in their storied histories, but when they have, the occasion has usually been befitting of two European powerhouses.
Someone didn’t give Brendan Rodgers that memo back in November 2014, whereby he infamously made seven changes to his starting XI and appeared to meekly accept a Champions League group stage exit.
The second-string Reds didn’t disgrace themselves, only losing 1-0 at The Bernabeu, while the first team had previously been outclassed with a 3-0 defeat to the eventual champions at Anfield. We’ve taken a look at what became of that Liverpool team.

The starting XIs from the last time Real hosted Liverpool

The last time these two goliaths met in Madrid was all the way back in 2014, and then-Liverpool boss Rodgers effectively threw in the towel. Having been hammered 3-0 by Los Blancos at Anfield two weeks earlier, he opted to leave Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli out of his starting XI.

With such a star-studded bench, the team sheet on the night was certainly, erm,
interesting. Obviously Real ran out comfortable winners, with the 1-0 scoreline doing little to give a true reflection of a game in which they had 27 shots to the Reds' four.

Manchester City, who have found the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals an impossible obstacle in recent years, take on Borussia Dortmund, a club appearing in the last eight for the first time since 2017.
• City are in the quarter-finals for the fourth successive season but their last three campaigns have all ended at this stage. Indeed, they have reached the semi-finals only once, in 2015/16; Dortmund, meanwhile, have lost their last two UEFA Champions League quarter-finals but overall have triumphed in the last eight three times out of six.

EPL: I don't want to return to Old Trafford - Manchester United star, Tahith Chong

Manchester United youngster, Tahith Chong has said he wouldn’t want to return to Old Trafford for at least one more season.
Chong, who is on loan to Belgian side, Club Brugge, says he prefers to stay for one more year at the club to gain stability.
Chong joined Wolfsburg on loan from United at the start of this season but struggled for game time at the Bundesliga side.
This pushed Man United to terminate his loan with the German side and the teenager had to move to Club Brugge for the remainder of the season.
And now Chong has told Sport magazine that he would not like to return to Old Trafford but would prefer to stay at Brugge beyond the end of the current campaign so he can have “a little more stability”.

AstraZeneca must meet its commitments for supplying vaccines to the European Union before it will be allowed to export any doses, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Figures presented by von der Leyen showed the EU has exported more vaccine shots since December than it has administered. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi urged EU nations to take action against pharma companies responsible for delays, Bloomberg reports. Elsewhere, Angela Merkel signaled that Germany would declare France a high-incidence virus area, requiring a negative test for anyone entering from the country. The chancellor's week to forget on the pandemic comes just as her nation has one eye on an election in late September. Meanwhile, the U.K.'s plan to ease its lockdown was backed by parliament, and a Conservative MP has vowed to walk around London with a pint of milk as an apparent symbol of freedom.

David Robertson on his Rangers days, Walter Smith, Brian Laudrup and why he's glad Celtic didn't do 10-In-A-Row

Card image cap

LIKE everyone of a Rangers persuasion, David Robertson was both delighted and relieved that Celtic failed in their bid to make Scottish football history and complete 10-In-A-Row in the 2020/21 campaign.
But Robertson, the former full-back who was an important member of the Ibrox teams which won nine consecutive titles during the 1990s, was particularly pleased.
It meant that his own place in the record books remained intact.
“I have selfish reasons for being happy about it,” he said. “With Celtic not getting the 10 it means I am still one of the players responsible for what is a record streak of title wins. If Celtic had completed 10-In-A-Row then Nine-In-A-Row would have been forgotten about.

Chong to discuss another move away from Man Utd for 2021-22 as he waits on big break

Chong has told
Sport/Voetbalmagazine: “Staying here for another year could give me stability, but that’s for later.
“As far as I know, there is no option [to extend the loan] in the agreement. We will have to discuss that with Manchester United later.
“I like Belgium. It is a bit like the Netherlands. Something that is in my head: that by staying here maybe a little more stability can come, but it is now difficult to fully focus on that.”
When does Chong’s contract at United run until?
He faces fierce competition for places in Manchester, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood filling wide attacking roles.

Tahith Chong says he is already thinking about staying with Club Brugge next season – but his future will depend on Manchester United.
Chong has been a Man Utd player since joining their academy from Feyenoord in 2016. After making 16 first-team appearances, he left on loan for Werder Bremen last summer. But that spell did not go to plan for the winger,
He will be on loan in Belgium until the end of the season. After that, United will have to work out a plan for the 21-year-old. With just one year left on his contract by the summer, his parent club must decide whether to keep him, loan him out again or sell him.
