KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced on Monday (Apr 12) that movement control orders (MCOs) would be extended across the country, Bernama reported.
The states of Johor, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor as well as Kuala Lumpur will remain under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) from Apr 15 to 28, while Sarawak will continue to be placed under the CMCO from Apr 13 to 26.

PUTRAJAYA, March 16 — The standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Cheng Beng or Qing Ming festival at cemeteries and columbariums that will be celebrated by the Chinese community on April 4 was approved today.
The National Unity Ministry (KPN), said in a statement today, that the SOPs will apply 14 days before the actual festival date, which is March 20 to April 4, and 14 days after, from April 5 to 18, throughout the duration of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional MCO (CMCO) and Recovery MCO (RMCO).

“There’s a growing group of travellers choosing last-minute adventures – couch dwellers who might make spontaneous decisions to either watch a show or book a staycation for the thrill of it, ” said Agoda regional director Enric Casals.

IPOH: The Ipoh district police will investigate a claim that an assistant cook in Kampung Rapat here was wrongfully slapped with the RM10,000 fine for breaching the conditional movement control order.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the Kampung Rapat police station officer had lodged a report on the matter after the claim went viral on social media.
ACP A. Asmadi said the police were made aware of the claim that was brought up by social activist Kuan Chee Heng on his Facebook account.
"The post was also shared on Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Facebook page, which has received public attention.

Covid-19: CMCO in Sarawak extended to March 29

KUCHING: The conditional movement control order in Sarawak will be extended for a further two weeks from March 16 to 29, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said.
He said at the state disaster management committee briefing here on Friday (March 12) that the decision was made because the number of positive cases in the state was still high.
With 173 new cases reported on Friday, the state's tally now stands at 12,051.
In other Covid-19-related developments, Uggah said an outbreak among family members in Sri Aman led to a new cluster involving a secondary school.
He said the Jalan Main Bazaar cluster was one of three new community clusters identified in the state on Friday.

Govt urged to open up CMCO states to tourism travel too

IPOH: Traders at tourist spots in Perak are hoping that interstate travel for tourism will be allowed in states under the conditional movement control order as well.
Trader Allen Ho said it was very confusing for everyone when people could travel to some states but not to others.
“The government should either allow all tourism spots to open or close them totally.
“Now I am hoping that Perak will also be under the recovery MCO soon, so that people will be able to visit, and we traders will have business as well, ” said Ho, who sells clothes here at Panglima Lane, popularly known as Concubine Lane.

MATTA Melaka Chapter chairman Goh Hock Gin said only about 40 of 80 tourism players had renewed their memberships for 2021, indicating that half the industry is no longer in business.
“This is a sad state of affairs for the tourism industry and we need the state government to look into our plight, ” he said in an interview on Monday (Feb 22).
Goh said most of those still active had also not resumed operations because interstate and interdistrict travel are still not allowed during the conditional movement control order.

Attractions in states under the conditional MCO can only accommodate visitors up to 50% of the usual capacity while tourist and cultural attractions in Perlis, which is the only state under the recovery MCO, can have more visitors as long as physical distancing is practised.
