Of a possible active shooter. national security correspondent jennifer griffin joins us from the pentagon. what have you learned from the incident today >> reporter: we just reached out to officials at walter reed national military medical center and they have confirmed there is a code white that has gone out across the facility and that patients are currently barricaded in their rooms. in fact, i have gotten reports that patients who i know to be up there at walter reed are barricaded. they say they're okay. but there are reports oven an active shooter and the facility is currently in lockdow...

Whoever is responsible for shooting. they have a report of shots fired and they respond quickly first uniformed patrol officers are ing to enter quickly. probably hospital force tre as well. it looks like they've evacuated on to the streets some patients. so that would indicate they have some very serious indication that there's an assailant there. responding to those shots. so it's going to unfold before our eyes, i think, as they're searching for the gunmen or gun women. >> i want to say, the nbc local channel there, kprc is reporting that a spokesman for the hospital said the code white, wh...

And who wouldn't be with this record out there. what we don't know is whether they have been able to apprehend anyone or find anyone that might have matched this description or if this was some sort of false alarm which has grown into something large. you can see the number of police officers behind the police car there, m-54 standing in the background and appear they're not in the line of fire there. they have to treat things in that matter unless and until they realize the situation is diffused. with the officers taking cover behind their cars, they're behind vehicles where there's no danger...
