Biopics have traditionally been an easy way to stack up the box office numbers, more so if the subject has a patriotic edge. Men of honour fighting for the nation always make for engaging and inspiring stories. From Vicky Kaushal to Sidharth Malhotra Bollywood actors are gearing up for their roles. Over the next months, Bollywood has several stories lined up that focus on valour in uniform. While the Indian soldier as a fictional entity has been around for a while, these films draw from true accounts of uniformed personnel who fought to protect the nation.

New Delhi (India), January 1 (ANI): Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat credited the grit, determination, and discoveries of Colonel Narendra 'Bull' Kumar for helping the Indian Army to reach and occupy locations that helped in strengthening country's defences.
Colonel Kumar, 87, passed away on Thursday at the Army Research and Referral Hospital due to several age-related ailments.
"On the demise of Colonel Narendra Kumar popularly known to us as Bull Kumar, we convey our condolences to the bereaved family. Colonel Kumar, the man who saved Siachen for India, passes away- The New Indian Express

Express News Service
NEW DELHI: Colonel Narendra Kumar, the man who scaled the Mt Everest for Indian Army, breathed his last in Delhi on Thursday. Kumar was commissioned from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in the Kumaon Regiment in 1953.
Colonel Aman Anand, Spokesperson, Indian Army said, “He was mountaineer par excellence, he was the first Indian to climb Mt Nanda Devi. He climbed the Mt Everest in 1965, Mt Blanc( highest peak in the Alps)and later Mt Kangchenchanga( from the toughest NE spur). He climbed up all these peaks despite losing four toes due to frostbite in earlier expeditions.”
In 1981 Colonel Kumar played a stellar role as a member of the Antarctica Task Force. If it was not for his expeditions to Siachen Glacier and Saltoro Range as Commandant of the 'High Altitude Warfare School', Pakistan would have annexed Siachen Glacier.

Siachen Hero, Colonel (Retired) Narendra 'Bull' Kumar, Dies At 87

Colonel Narendra 'Bull' Kumar (Retired) was born in Rawalpindi - now in Pakistan - in 1933.
New Delhi:
Colonel Narendra 'Bull' Kumar (Retired), who contributed significantly to the security of our country by paving the way for India's move into the Siachen Glacier, died on Thursday - the last day of the year 2020.
Born in Rawalpindi - now in Pakistan - in 1933, the mountaineering legend led an expedition of the Indian Army to the Siachin Glacier in April 1984. The pre-emptive mobilisation helped the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, launch Operation Meghdoot.
"We went on this expedition and that's where we climbed all these high passes. Every time we went, the Pakistanis came and flew over us. And to tease us and make us aware that they knew (of our presence) they used to release coloured smoke there. We were unarmed and we were pretty scared," Col Kumar had said in an earlier interview.
