Holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia has witnessed a staggering 600 percent increase in vegatation cover during the past five months in 2023
The last one year’s of regular rains have turned Makkah, a desert into a Green Valley with mountains and highways giving a scenic view of the Holy City which the local residents have never seen before.
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development at Combating Desertification (NCVC) has organized a workshop to introduce the implementation plan to rehabilitate the floodplains and Meadows in partnership with five royal reserves. The CNVC has signed several agreements with the development authorities of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve, King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve, Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Royal Reserve, Imam Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Royal Reserve and King Khalid Royal Reserve to rehabilitate more than 1,000 floodplains and Meadows across the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia's King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority, in cooperation with the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification (NCVC), has completed the planting of one million trees in Rawdat Al-Khafs, located south of the reserve. The first phase of planting 500,000 trees in the northern and southern parts of Rawdat Al-Khafs was completed in August 2022 and the remaining 500,000 trees were planted in 2023.
