State Recovery Coordination Group established to manage cyclone recovery efforts
Premier Mark McGowan today announced Melissa Pexton has been appointed State Recovery Controller and head of the State Recovery Coordination Group to assist and support communities impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seroja.
Ms Pexton is the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Director Risk, Capability and Analysis, and will lead the whole-of-government approach to recovery efforts.
Ms Pexton is also the Executive Officer of the State Emergency Management Committee and has held positions of Deputy Chair and Chair of the SEMC Recovery and Community Engagement Subcommittee.

UW: 'Vile' racist 'Zoom bomb' attack came from Germany, East coast

CASPER, Wyo. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation of a racist disruption that occurred during Feb. 15 Black History Month discussion conducted by the University of Wyoming’s Black Studies Center.
UW Chief Diversity Officer Emily Monago described the events as a “racist attack” in a Monday, Feb. 22 message to the UW community. She also said the attack may be connected to other similar attacks seen throughout the country.
“The words and images were so disturbing, hateful, violent and offensive that they shocked and outraged our community,” Monago said. “Following the university’s administration’s statement condemning the detestable disruption — and calling for a law enforcement investigation to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable — Gov. Mark Gordon also issued a statement of condemnation on behalf of the entire state.”

Barnstable School Committee may vote to keep BHS "Red Raiders " name

In the wake of local pressure to “Save The Red Raider,” the Barnstable School Committee is considering a vote that would keep the name for its now-retired Native American mascot while the town searches for a new mascot.
When divorced from Native American imagery, the name “Red Raider” could evolve to have a new, inoffensive meaning, School Committee member Joe Nystrom said during a Jan. 6 meeting,
He said he didn’t intend to vote in August to drop the name, only the Native American imagery that has long been associated with it in Barnstable.
“The name Red Raider preceded the Native American imagery, and I feel that it can also move beyond it,” Nystrom said.“Like individuals and towns, I think the Red Raider can evolve.”
