photo courtesy of the Connecticut Early Music Society Published April 09. 2021 7:25AM The Connecticut Early Music Society’s virtual concert on Sunday, April 18 will feature the professional debut of an 1814 Thomas Butcher square piano, recently donated to the New London Maritime Society by the Grady-Keith/Keith Schumacher family of Ledyard. Square pianos were developed in the mid-18th century, constructed as a rectangular wooden case with a shorter keyboard than modern pianos. CEMS artistic director Ian Watson, who will also be performing, reworked selections of music from the time period for concertgoers to hear it as it was intended to be heard, with selections by Bach, Haydn, Boccherini and Beethoven. ....
