バイデン米大統領は２４日、香港の民主派系新聞、蘋果日報（リンゴ日報）が廃刊となったことに関して「メディアの自由にとり悲しい日だ」と述べ、中国による抑圧が一段と強くなっていることを示していると懸念を示した。

民主派香港紙、発行部数を50万部に拡大　幹部5人逮捕受け

１８日付の一面は前日の捜索に関する記事で、ハードディスクドライブ４４台が証拠として押収されたと伝えた。
真夜中に印刷されたばかりの蘋果日報を買い求めた人もいた。苗字だけを明かしたこの男性は「この新聞がいつなくなるか分からない。香港人として私たちは歴史を守らなければならない」と述べ「道は険しいが、他に道はないのだから歩かなければならない」とコメントした。
ある銀行員の男性は、警察による捜索のニュースを聞いて２０年ぶりに新聞を買ったという。「買った新聞で何かするつもりではない。自分の良心のために新聞を購入した」と述べた。
香港警察は１７日、蘋果日報の幹部５人を逮捕したほか、５００人態勢で本社編集局を捜索した。当局は今回初めて、メディアの記事が国安法違反に問われる可能性があると指摘した。
編集局が警察の捜索を受けるのは、同紙オーナーで中国政府に批判的な黎智英（ジミー・ライ）氏が昨年８月に逮捕されて以降２回目。
同紙は黎氏の逮捕直後も発行部数を５０万部ほどに増やした。
また、同紙編集部のあるグラフィック・ジャーナリストは「香港にとり本当に哀れな瞬間だ」と述べた上で、「われわれが生き残らなければ、報道の自由はもはやなくなる」と述べた。

ROME (Reuters) - Italian drinks group Campari targets premium brands and is focused on the United States and Asia as it presses on with its acquisition strategy, its chief executive was quoted as saying on Monday.

(Reuters) - The COVID-19 vaccine of AstraZeneca Plc and Oxford University works well as a third booster dose, stepping up antibodies to the coronavirus spike protein among participants in a study, the Financial Times said here on Wednesday.
The news comes as vaccine makers warn that the world will need yearly booster shots, or new vaccines, to tackle virus variants, although some scientists question if such shots are necessary.
