And anything else that would have an input to telling us exactly what happened. it will corroborate what went on in the cockpit as far as the controls and the engine the altitude all of the control surfaces and tell us exactly where and what that plane was doing while he was manipulating the controls. paul that plane hit the mountain at 400 miles per hour or faster. would that necessarily damage the second black box to the point where we couldn t extract information? well hopefully not. the actual data is on chips, small chips, just an inch or less on each edge. they are well protected within a number of different shells. ....

Impact as it entered the water. the pieces that would really be even more telltale would be any control circuits of the plane. for example the vertical or horizontal stabilizers, any parts of the wing tip controls, that would say that perhaps if they re far from the wreckage if they separated from the plane in flight. so it s an important piece knowing that the fuselage was breached but the air crash investigators looking for why the plane went down will be looking for control surfaces. david soucie told me yesterday that there was this blue suitcase that was found, mary that was kept near where the black boxes are. it was intact. what does that tell you? well, a couple things. one, it says that again, the fuselage was breached and that it was open and we know that from the number of bodies they have obtained from the ocean, floating in the ocean. but that you know when it came down and split open things came out of the plane but the plane ....

That could override the pilot s actual intent. what is your assessment of what could have happened base on the information we have? fly by wires, essentially what that means is the pilot puts in control input and those don t go directly to the control surfaces. rather they go to a computer which decides she put in this much input this is how i m going flight controls. this aircraft limits what you can do because it s a system that limits allowing you to pull too many g s or fly too high, for example, based on your fuel, your loading and other things. in this particular case maria was saying the cloud tops were 44,000 feet. you can t climb above those in this airplane. the surface ceiling of this airplane is 42,000 feet. this guy was apparently trying to fly above thunder clouds that were 44,000 feet in a plane that is not supposed to go above 44,000. the plane may have prevented him from doing that. we understand from air ....

Recorder, don t have answers for us, there s going to be tremendous pressure to bring up significant parts of the aircraft. and that will be some task. what would jeopardize that message, a corrosion issue or simply because of the way in which the material is recorded over itself? well, let s assume that the black boxes are fine and intact and they work fine. the cockpit voice recorder captures the last two hours on a loop. this was a seven-hour flight and whatever happened the event which caused it to turn around is most likely not captured on that cockpit voice recorder unless somebody pulled a breaker. so, there s that. we don t know what happened the last two hours of the flight. is anything on there? any conversations? any statement, who knows? the flight data recorder which captures 80-plus parameters of the flight, control surfaces, the fuel burn, the power, you name it, it s all there. if it if it reveals that the airplane was working perfectly ....

I don t think this evidence points to that a great deal. i don t know that the pilots made a mistake that made this thing crash. i think that s another one of those ideas. mary, i was trying to give jim tillman your question here. so i ll give it to you now. this says, decompression caused by aircraft fatigue or a deliberate act? nina says, could this have began as faulty decompression and escalated to pilot suicide when all died but him, mary? well, it s possible. there have been other accidents where we ve had cabin decompression and from fatigue in the aircraft or maintenance mistakes. one is where the maintenance crew forgot to turn back on the automatic pressurization. another was from a crack in the fuselage. so it s possible. you know, at that point you would assume if everyone else had perished except for the pilot, presumably there was lack of control surfaces, too. otherwise we would have taken ....
