NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday set up a 12-member National Task Force (NTF) to facilitate public health response to Covid-19, including streamlining of oxygen distribution in the country, based on scientific and specialized domain knowledge.
A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah said: "A consensus has emerged that there is a need to ensure that the allotments of medical oxygen to the states and UTs are made on a scientific, rational and equitable basis. At the same time, it must allow for flexibility to meet unforeseen demands due to emergencies which may arise within the allocated territories."

Supreme Court sets up task force for 'equitable' distribution of oxygen

A division bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah said the task force will “enable the decision makers to have inputs which go beyond finding ad-hoc solutions to the present problems”. It further observed that “the likely future course of the pandemic must be taken into contemplation at the present time,” keeping in view an impending third Covid-19 wave.

New Delhi, May 8 : The Supreme Court on Saturday set up a 12-member National Task Force (NTF) to facilitate public health response to Covid-19, including streamlining of oxygen distribution in the country, based on scientific and specialised domain knowledge, .

The Supreme Court on Saturday constituted a 12-member national task force that would be tasked with formulating a methodology for the "scientific allocation of medical oxygen" to states and Union Territories (UTs) during the pandemic.
Issuing the order, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah said this taskforce would be at liberty to draw upon the human resources of the Union government for consultation and information. It would also be free to formulate its modalities and procedure for working.

The Supreme Court has constituted a 12-member National Task Force to streamline and ensure the “effective and transparent” allocation of liquid medical oxygen on a “scientific, rational and equitable basis” to States and Union Territories fighting COVID-19.

Supreme Court sets up 12-member panel to monitor oxygen allocation amid COVID-19 surge


The panel will provide inputs, based on members' scientific and specialised knowledge, to meet others challenges to have been raised by the pandemic.
The Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is among the 12 members while the Convenor of the National Task Force will be the Cabinet Secretary to the Centre.
Other members include leading doctors from Delhi hospitals, Vellore's Christian Medical College, Bengaluru's Narayana Healthcare and Mumbai's Fortis Hospital.
Here's the list of 12-panel members: 
1. Dr Bhabatosh Biswas, former Vice-Chancellor, West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata
2. Dr Devender Singh Rana, Chairperson, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi
