A number of opposition parties have warned the government against closing the Israeli embassy in South Africa and cutting diplomatic ties with that country.
Despite the DA's request for a mayoral election in Tshwane to be held on Friday, speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana has decided it will be next week.
The walkout was as a result of the refusal of the speaker to act on the requirement to remove the axed councillors from the chambers.
"We are not a Mafikizolo party to be called a proxy executive mayor. We were long in the struggle [and] were part of liberating this country, so nobody will use us as a proxy mayor. We have rights, and Dr Makwarela our mayor is there not because of a favour," said COPE spokesperson Dennis Bloem.
