The spacecraft, after traveling about 1.5 million km from the Earth over 125 days, is expected to be placed in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1 which is considered closest to the Sun
India is preparing to launch its first solar mission, the Aditya L1, which will study the sun and its impact on space weather. The mission will be launched from the India Space Research Organisation's launchpad and will travel for 125 days to reach a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1. The spacecraft will carry seven scientific payloads, including a Visible Emission Line Coronagraph, which will send images of the sun to ground stations.
VELC, recognised as the largest and most technically demanding payload aboard Aditya-L1, underwent integration, testing, and calibration at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics' (IIA) CREST campus in Hoskote, located nearby.
