New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the COVID-19 situation and the vaccination programme amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
PTI sources said top officials, including the cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the prime minister, health secretary and NITI Aayog member Vinod Paul, attended the meeting.

So far, India has recorded 10,925,710 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 155,813 deaths. A total of 10,633,025 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far. There are 136,872 active cases in the country as of date, which comprises 1.25 percent
of the total caseload, the data stated. India's recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 97.32 percent. Globally, more than 10.91 crore people have been infected by the coronavirus and 24.07 lakh have died so far. India, along with many countries, has granted emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccines and has started the process of vaccinating healthcare workers and high-risk groups. India's regulator has granted restricted emergency use approval for two vaccines -- Covishield and Covaxin. More than 85 lakh people have been given their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in India so far.

Covid-19 patients who suffer a cardiac arrest either in or out of hospital are far more likely to die than those who are not infected with the novel coronavirus, according to a study published on Friday which found that women, in particular, have the highest risk.

20:54 PM IST: Covid-19 vaccines were administered in all 33 districts on Telangana on Tuesday. Data released by the state government's health department said 51,997 recipients received the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday during 894 sessions as against the target of 73,673. This puts the percentage of beneficiaries vaccinated today against the planned target at 71 per cent.
