Mangaluru, Dec 18: Days after ruckus prevailed in Karnataka Legislative Council over chairman’s post, which included manhandling of deputy chairman S L Dharme Gowda, a JD(S) MLC, by the Congress MLCs, BJP MLC Prathap Simha Nayak on Friday December 18, terming the chaos as a 'bad dream' said he would apologies to the people of state and regret the incident.
Addressing a press meet at his office here, he said, “The Legislative Council is called a 'thinkers hall', but the recent development in the Legislative Council affected democratic principles, constitutional values and morality.

For the umpteenth time we have seen manhandling incidents in constitutional houses such as Parliament, Legislative Assembly and Council. One such incident repeated yet again and this time in Karnataka Legislative Council. However, this is new low. The Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Council was dragged out of his chair in a disturbing manner.
Going into details, the ruling BJP has filed a no-confidence motion against Chairman of the Legislative Council Prathap Chandra Shetty, who belongs to the Congress. But in place of Shetty, Deputy Speaker SL Dharmegowda occupied the chair. The Congress sensed something fishy and as soon as the sessions started, they surrounded the Speaker’s podium.

Deputy Speaker Dharme Gowda Manhandled In Karnataka Council

BENGALURU: Chaos prevailed in the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday, as Deputy Chairman S L Dharme Gowda was literally pulled down from the Chairman's seat by Congress members and manhandled after which the House was adjourned sine die again.
Though the no-confidence motion against Chairman of the Legislative Council Prathap Chandra Shetty, who belongs to the Congress was moved by the BJP members, did not find mention in today's agenda, as the Chairman had rejected it citing procedural lapses, the ruling party members have been insisting that it should be taken up.
As the House met for the day, Gowda occupied the Chairman's seat, which angered the Congress MLCs who rushed to the chair demanding that he vacate it, following which BJP and JD(S) members came to Shetty's protection.
