IPL suspended: Four franchise bio-bubbles were breached, players and staff test Covid positive

May 4, 2021 12:55 BST
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice after four franchise bio-bubbles were breached with players and support staff testing positive for coronavirus.
There was a lot of hue and cry from around the country about the IPL which was taking place in the midst of the second wave of the pandemic that is devastating most of India. There were calls for its suspension with many questioning why it was allowed to continue.
However, the tournament continued as the organisers were confident that the teams along with the staff and players were secure owing to the secure bio-bubbles that was created. However, in the last 48 hours news filtered through that there were breaches with Kolkata Knight Riders reporting that two of their players had tested positive.

Along with the report, the Irish Independent has published photos of the training session which included a coach, cones on the pitch and a host of All-Ireland winners.
The session took place just hours after the GAA warned counties not to break Covid restrictions before intercounty senior training can resume on April 19 because doing so could jeopardise the return of Gaelic Games..

NBL Adelaide 36ers beat New Zealand Breakers in overtime thriller

The gripping finale concluded when Breakers import Lamar Patterson, whose three-pointer with 17.8 seconds remaining gave his side a sniff, missed his next attempt on the buzzer that would have forced double-overtime.
For the Breakers, Tai Webster (34 points) sizzled in his first NBL game in almost eight years before fouling out with 11.8 seconds left, Tony Crocker's ensuing free throws giving the Sixers the cushion they needed.

As a consequence of that visit, Trist is regarded by the Western Australian Government as having been in close contact with a person who has been in a restricted zone (Victoria) in the past 14 days.
It means Trist is unable to enter WA for the Breakers' game against the Perth Wildcats in round three on January 31.
He was immediately isolated from the rest of the team to ensure that the Breakers remain eligible to enter WA without need to quarantine.
