Edoardo Siddi, the man behind the microphone on Juventus TV for all of the Juventus Women matches again this season, went to Instagram following the Bianconere’s latest win on Sunday and had a message for Cristiana Girelli.
The gist of it: Your goals are the reason I will have a sore throat tomorrow.
Blame it on the whole team, too.
Indeed, Girelli’s latest goal fest helped the Juve women record a dominant 9-1 win over Pink Bari. In her first start since suffering a very rough-looking injury in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals against Roma a couple of weeks ago, Girelli stole the headlines with her personal poker against a Pink Bari side that had absolutely no answer for the Juve attack — especially in the second half — and saw the champions drop seven goals on the visitors in the second half. One week after setting the Serie A Femminile record for consecutive wins, Juventus Women matched a club record for wins to begin a season (17) with Sunday’s victory. equaling the total from their first-ever season.

Coming out of last weekend’s rare loss to Roma in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals, Juventus Women manager Rita Guarino had a decision to make. One of her most in-form players, Barbara Bonansea was out injured. Her top scorer, Cristiana Girelli, was also injured in the game, but was called up to the trip to Florence even though she wasn’t 100 percent fit.
So, in a big rivalry game, it’s never a good thing to be without two of your best players.
As it turned out, it was Juventus’ No. 9 who stepped in for No. 10 and provided all of the offense that Juve needed.

Italy Women Qualify for Euro 2022 - Chiesa Di Totti

Euro 2022, which was of course originally slated to be played
this summer, was rescheduled due to the pandemic, as well as the subsequent postponements of the men's Euro 2020 tournament and last summer's Olympic games, both of which knocked everything on the international calendar back almost a year. Euro 2022 kicks off in England on July 6, 2022, at Old Trafford in Manchester and will conclude with the final on July 31st at Wembley Stadium in London.

Azzurre and Roma standouts Elisa Bartoli, Manuela Giugliano, and Elena Linari are veritable locks to make the cut for Euro 2022, while Annamaria Serturini should reprise her World Cup 2019 role off the bench. Roma has a gaggle of U-23 players like Giada Greggi, Tecla Pettenuzzo, Agnese Bonfantini, and Angelica Soffia who are likely longshots at this point but could force National Team manager Milena Bertolini's hand with strong performances over the next 16 months.

Showing no signs of letting up, Juventus Women recorded yet another win this weekend overcoming Pink Bari 4-0 thanks to goals from Arianna Caruso, Cristiana Girelli, Valentina Cernoia and Andrea Staskova,as they continued to maintain a two point lead at the top of the table.
Despite the comfortable win the hosts got off a bright start with Laura Giuliani forced into making a close range save within the first minute, then as a sign of things to come, a minute later, Valentina Cernoia hit the woodwork with a great strike. Juventus Women open season with win over Hellas Verona

In doing some reading before kickoff about 12 hours ago, I noticed that there was this little thing being thrown out there by a certain website by the name of Tutto Calcio Femminile: Juventus Women’s season opener was a matchup of the teacher lining up against the student.
The “teacher” in this case was Juve’s Cristiana Girelli, Serie A Femminile’s reigning top goal scorer and an all-around wonderful person. The “pupil” is a player who is very much looked at as a future contributor at Juventus: 19-year-old Asia Bragonzi, a Juve youth product who is spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Hellas Verona.

NZF: Ferns target third after Italy loss
Sunday, 8 March, 2020 - 12:41
The Football Ferns will now look to secure third place at the Algarve Cup after falling to a 3-0 loss against Italy in the semi-finals in Portugal this morning (NZT).
Tom Sermanni’s side went into the clash aiming to create history as they had never made the final of this tournament before and were also chasing back-to-back victories over non-Oceania opposition for the first time in seven years.
But Italy, who made the quarter-finals of last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, were just as determined to progress and their superior execution in the final third made the difference as goals from Cristiana Girelli, Barbara Bonansea and Stefania Tarenzi gave them a well-deserved win.

With fewer top teams around the continent, women's football in Europe has the luxury of breaking more frequently for international play. It's a luxury if you love international football or a subtle annoyance if you prefer the club game. No matter your preference, the most recent break in play offers a trio of attractive international tournaments, as the women's federations of the world hit pause on league play in favor of the Cypress Cup, the SheBelieves Cup and the Algarve Cup, each of which kicks off play in the next few days.

Clinical Italy overcome Malta girls

MALTA 0
Four goals in the first half propelled Italy to a 5-0 win over Malta in a Euro 2021 qualifier at the Stadio Teofilo Patini of Castel di Sangro.
Italy struggled to break down the Maltese defence early on but once they found the breakthrough on 27 minutes, they strolled to a comfortable victory.
Malta, on their part, still managed to put an organised display despite crossing swords with the 2019 Women’s World Cup quarter-finalists.
Coach Mark Gatt made one change from the team that drew against Israel as Alishia Sultana was preferred to Nicole Sciberras in midfield.
Italy coach Milena Bertolini started with the trademark 4-4-2 with goalkeeper Laura Giuliani between the sticks on her 50th cap.

Gatt embraces Italy test

The Malta women’s national team are bracing themselves for a major international test as Mark Gatt’s side take on 14th-ranked Italy in their fifth Women’s Euro 2021 qualifier in Castel di Sangro, this afternoon (kick-off: 2.15pm).
Last Thursday, the Maltese girls put up a commendable showing against Israel as they earned their first point in Group B following a 1-1 draw.
It was a performance that reaped the dividends of the hard work put in by the Maltese players in the build-up of these European qualifications.
It’s been two years since the Maltese team was last involved in a qualifying campaign for a major tournament – the 2019 World Cup qualifiers in 2017.
