Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said that Vietnam would not accept foreign firms that do not observe Vietnamese laws when providing movies through cross-border platforms.
Up to 42 foreign service providers have registered, declared and paid tax with a total amount of VND 1.9 trillion (US$ 82 million) to the portal for tax payment of cross border activities, according to the General Department of Taxation.
Ecommerce platform operators in Vietnam will have to provide tax agencies with information about sellers, instead of having to pay taxes on their behalf.
Cross-border TV OTT platforms will have to have operating licenses and pay tax, and domestic firms will be subjected to looser censorship, thus creating opportunities for domestic firms to compete with foreign ones.
