The swelling Ganga came closer to the danger mark in Mirzapur and Ballia on Tuesday. In Varanasi, however, the river was showing a steady trend.

Prayagraj: The twin rivers — Ganga and Yamuna — continued to swell at various locations in Prayagraj district on Monday.

The rise in water level has been a matter of concern, leading to a flood-like situation in the national capital and adjoining regions. The river water level had been hovering around the danger mark of 205.33 metres for the last few days after reaching an all-time high of 208.66 metres on July 13. However, the river crossed the danger mark at 5:0 pm on July 10 following incessant rainfall in the national capital.

The weather stations at Lodhi Road, Ayanagar, Mungeshpur and Mayur Vihar gauged 35.1 mm, 26 mm, 53.5 mm and 110.5 mm of precipitation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till July 27.
