Australian Energy Market Operator head Daniel Westerman says two-thirds of electricity capacity could leave grid by 2030
Electricity grid controller AEMO will hand over planning responsibility to a government agency, amid mounting anger in regional communities forced to accept the massive power lines needed for Victoria’s ambitious wind and solar agenda.
Daniel Westerman, the CEO of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), says that renewable curtailment in Australia has risen by approximately 40% from last year.
Acknowledging that the regulatory environment is not fit for purpose is one thing; proceeding with transmission projects with this knowledge is absurd.
AEMO says network in gridlock and unable to shift enough wind and solar, as Bowen says regulator decisions need to be about more than pure economics.
