RICHMOND, Calif. - Richmond police investigating a homicide are looking for witnesses of a broad daylight shooting on Wednesday.
ShotSpotter activity was detected at the 300 block of 25th Street at Macdonald Avenue at 12:47 p.m. Arriving officers found a man with gunshot wounds inside his vehicle. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police identified the victim as Danny Ray Mitchell, 60, a Richmond resident.
The police department's homicide unit is investigating.
Police have noted this is a busy commercial area, normally bustling with pedestrians and motorists. They believe there are witnesses that they have not yet spoken with and are asking anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity to come forward.

Richmond police on Thursday searched for witnesses in the shooting death of a 60-year-old man they said was gunned down in broad daylight while sitting in his car in the city’s busy downtown Wednesday afternoon.
Richmond police sensors detected shots fired at 12:47 p.m. in the 300 block of 25th Street, a bustling commercial area near the Richmond Civic Center Plaza. Officers found a man sitting in his car with gunshot wounds, police said.

A 60-year-old man was fatally shot in one of the busiest commercial areas of Richmond Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded to the area of 25
th Street and Macdonald Avenue following a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert at 12:47 p.m., police said.
Officers located Danny Ray Mitchell, of Richmond, suffering from gunshot wounds inside his vehicle.
Mitchell was transported to a local trauma center, where he died from his injuries, police said.
The killing marked the city’s 20
th homicide of 2020.
Police detectives spoke with witnesses but are encouraging any other witnesses they haven’t spoken with yet to contact them.
