Close to 120,000 Ukrainians are still waiting to get visas to come to Canada but a few have already arrived. Tetiana Chudiiovych is one such. She fled Kyiv with her children shortly after the Russian invasion and escaped to Italy. After almost two months of waiting, the family arrived in Sasaktoon.
The federal immigration department received more than 163,747 applications from Ukrainian nationals between March 17, when the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel immigration stream was announced, and April 19. Only 56,633 applications have been approved so far.
