>> reporter: so daryl clinton just a day after we did that interview, he actually got hit with a lava bomb on his leg. the bomb was about the size of a bowling ball. he was just standing on his porch. he stopped paying attention for just half a second. luckily his ex-wife was there to take him to the hospital. she said that the heat of that lava bomb was so intense, john and poppy, that it seemed to cauterize the wound on his leg. it also started a fire on the porch. daryl clinton is in the hospital. he'll be there for six weeks. those two homes he was protecting are still standing. >> unbelie...
