PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old businessman who was arrested together with his friend for allegedly assaulting two people at a restaurant here last week is expected to be charged in court tomorrow.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the businessman, Datuk Tan Wai Khan, will be charged with committing public nuisance, committing mischief and three counts of causing hurt under Section 427, Section 290 and Section 323 of the Penal Code respectively.
He said the businessman’s 39-year-old friend will be charged for causing public nuisance and assault.

PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old businessman, who was arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a man and a woman at a restaurant in Tropicana last week, has apologised for his actions.
In an almost two-and-a-half minute video shared on social media yesterday, Datuk Tan Wai Khan also apologised on behalf of his friend whom he refered to as “Ang Lee”, who was also involved in the attack at the TST Hotspot restaurant on Jan 12.
“I admit that my friend and I had committed an inappropriate and extreme act.
“My friend and I were irrational and angry at the time as we felt slighted being chided by a younger person.

The Datuk who went viral recently and was arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a man and a woman at a restaurant in Tropicana last week, has apologised for his rowdy behaviour.
In a video shared on social media yesterday, Datuk Tan Wai Khan also apologised on behalf of his friend whom he referred to as “Ang Lee”, who was also involved in the attack.
The incident happened in TST Hotspot restaurant on Jan 12, in Tropicana Avenue hours before the Movement Control was in effect.
Besides admitting fault, he also hoped in the over 2 minute video that the public would not involve his family and friends into the issue as Tan said he was the one responsible for the incident.

'Hotpot' Datuk and second suspect out on bail


PETALING JAYA: The Datuk and another individual involved in an assault at a hotpot restaurant have been released on police bail.
This came after a bid by the police to extend their remand was rejected by the court, according to their lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh.
“The investigating officer’s application to the court for (further) remand in this case has been rejected, ” he said yesterday.
Both suspects were brought to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court at about 11am after their two-day remand, from Friday, expired.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the police were in the midst of completing the investigation.

Viral Datuk Who Went On Slapping Spree In Tropicana Now Out On Bail

Two men, including a Datuk, who were detained by the police after they were believed to be involved in beatings and intimidation at a restaurant last Tuesday, were released on bail.
Earlier, the two men, aged 39 and 42, were remanded for two days ending today but the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court rejected an application to extend the remand of the two suspects.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the police were completing an investigation paper on the incident and will present it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

Victim in 'hotpot Datuk' slapping incident a son of another Datuk


PETALING JAYA: The victim who was slapped by a Datuk and another man at a hotpot restaurant turns out to be the son of another Datuk.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Datuk Kwan Foh Kwai who is Perak Chinese Assembly Hall's deputy president, confirmed that it was his son who was slapped in the incident.
"It is regrettable that this happened. We have lodged a report the same night after the incident.
"I am not going to deny it was my son because I do not wish to see unfair posts made about him being circulated online," he said.
When asked about his son's injury, Kwan refused to divulge much, only stopped short at saying he would fully let the police investigate the matter.
