Kang Daniel on facing his inner demons with triumphant album Yellow

Kang Daniel – once dubbed “the Nation’s Center” – is one of South Korea’s most famous young men, selling over million albums globally as a soloist and over 4.2 million as part of Wanna One, the K-pop group with whom he shot to fame. He’s also the CEO of his own company (Konnect Entertainment) and a brand ambassador for Givenchy Beauty, just one in a long line of A-list endorsements. Today, the 24-year-old is makeup-free, approachable, and charming. Wearing a cream hoodie he looks like he could be the, albeit ultra handsome, guy next door.
That is, of course, partly why Daniel became a household name. Yet he remains shy by nature; when he speaks, his eyes drift away from the Zoom camera but the longer we talk, the more frequent is his recognisable hiccupping laugh (compiled across dozens of YouTube videos) and the brighter he becomes with that incandescence unique to very famous people. Our conversation ends with idle chatter about creatives in constant chase of the next adrenaline rush, and Daniel nods. “It’s gotten weirder and weirder (for me). I started thinking about

Lady Gaga responds to a fan campaign pushing for Artpop Volume II

“Making this album was like heart surgery, I was desperate, in pain, and poured my heart into electronic music that slammed harder than any drug I could find,” she wrote.
“I fell apart after I released this album. Thank you for celebrating something that once felt like destruction,” she added. “We always believed it was ahead of its time. Years later turns out, sometimes, artists know. And so do little monsters. Paws up.”
Last week, DJ White Shadow, who produced many of the songs on the album, revealed he had contacted Gaga about a petition from fans calling for a sequel to the album, which currently has over 39,000 signatures.

How deepfake technology is bringing loved ones 'back' from the dead

How long until our data is mined to give us a kind of afterlife? Creepy or beautiful, avatars of the dead are already here
Welcome to A Future World – Dazed's network, community, and platform focusing on the intersection of science, technology and pop culture. Throughout April, we're featuring conversations and mission statements from the people paving new pathways for our planet: activists, inventors, fashion pioneers, technologists, AI scientists, and global youth movements, alongside in-depth editorial exploring the new realities for our future world.
I recently spoke to a man who has decided to constantly record their grandparents before they die. “The reason for 24/7 capture is that it's quite easy to capture video of people,” he said over Zoom, lifting a little camera up to the screen to show me the kind of technology he had installed. “Audio is harder though. My grandparents don’t speak very much, particularly my grandfather. In the future I don’t know how much data I will need. Today I might only need 4-5 minutes of video, to create a pretty realistic digital approximation of them. But in the future what if I need more? It’s best to collect as much as I can.”

Grace Jones' Meltdown Festival has been rescheduled to 2022

Jones’ Meltdown Festival will now take place June 10 to 19 next year, with a majority of the previously announced acts – including Solange and Peaches – set to remain on the line-up. Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Jimmy Cliff will no longer be performing.
The Southbank Centre say it will be in touch with all ticket holders with information on how tickets will be transferred to the new dates in 2022.
“While it’s disappointing to be announcing that Grace Jones’ Meltdown will be postponed until June 2022, we are so grateful to everyone involved in helping us reschedule the hugely anticipated festival,” Bengi Ünsal, Head of Contemporary Music at the Southbank Centre, said in a statement.

Watch a flute-playing Timothée Chalamet make an SNL cameo

Saturday Night Live had a big show this weekend. There was musical guest Kid Cudi’s sartorial tribute to Kurt Cobain with a performance in which he wore a stunning floral Off-White dress. Host Carey Mulligan’s skit skewering the recent trend of melancholy period lesbian films (“featuring Academy Award-winning glance choreography” the fake trailer promises). And a musical sketch complete with a flute-playing Timothée Chalamet.
Featuring Cudi and
SNL cast members Pete Davidson and Chris Redd, the skit sees the trio rap about their favorite instrument: the weird little flute. Honouring the instrument that has unexpectedly appeared in rap and hip hop hits like Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” and Future’s “Mask Off”, they describe taking their flutes to the club, cleaning their flutes, and pretending to be Harry Potter with their flutes all while pretending to play their weird little flutes – some (Cudi) better than others (Davidson).

The 2021 Met Ball's theme has been revealed

While the dress codes of both Galas have yet to be formally announced, it’s safe to say that it will likely be an all-American affair. Cut to Jason Derulo falling down the stairs in a Ralph Lauren polo, Katy Perry edging her way towards a hot dog stand wearing a polystyrene Statue of Liberty cut-out, and Lady Gaga unveiling herself from a stack of Telfar shoppers like a Russian nesting doll. As America enters a new era under Biden, are we about to witness the renewal of Americana: all stars and stripes, solo cups, varsity jackets, and trucker hats?
