The teacher, Jashodaben Khokharia, was arrested and charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and also relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Vipul Patel.
A police complaint was lodged by the girl's parents against the teacher, identified as, Jashoda Khokhari, after they saw marks on their daughter's face
The Commerce stream saw a pass percentage of 80.78 in Surat city, a dip of 7 per cent since 2022. Among the 48,485 students who appeared in the exams from Surat, 603 secured A1 grade. In all, 1,875 students across the state secured A1 grade.
The district had also topped the state in Class 12 Science results announced early this month. It also had the highest number of students who got the A1 grade across the state.
Two Class 12 science students and four students from the Commerce batch were also allegedly found cheating.
